15 years after a catastrophe largely wiped-out humanity, Paul and his sons Thomas and Joseph are fighting for survival. Night after night, they have to barricade themselves on the top floor of a dilapidated farmhouse to find shelter from the light-shy creatures that crawl out of the depths of the ground and mercilessly hunt down the last remaining humans. When Thomas does not return before nightfall after a visit to the neighboring farm of the Rose family, Paul sets out to look for him. Joseph is left alone to defend the house against the monsters.
