For several years, earthly scientists have been exploring the planet Solaris, an organic, apparently thinking structure surrounded by a plasma ocean. But of the 85 members of the space station floating freely above the Solar Ocean, only three are still alive, suffering from a hallucinatory syndrome. Psychologist Kris Kelvin is tasked with getting to the bottom of the phantom apparitions on the space station and comes face to face with his own past.
